Madeira, Portugal, February 9, 2009 - FIVB Beach Volleyball Council Member José Casanova was a guest of the President of the Regional Government of Madeira Dr. Alberto João Jardim at his Official Residence on Monday, February 2, as the President paid tribute to the Madeira athletes, coaches and officials who participated at the Beijing Olympic Games.

President Jardim highlighted the number of Madeirans taking part in the Summer Games in relation to the autonomous region's population of fewer than 300,000 people.

Dr. Jardim said he hoped all would return to compete in the Olympic Games in 2012 and encouraged the local sport organizations to work hard during the next Olympic period so an even bigger Madeira delegation can grace the Summer Games with even greater success in London.

Portuguese Casanova, who is the Referee Commissioner on the FIVB Beach Volleyball Council, presented the President with a gift from the Beijing Games before attendees sat down to dinner.
